what is tap?

TAP cards are reusable plastic cards that can be used to pay your fare on Metro and 24 other transit agencies.  Buy a TAP card online, or by calling 866.TAPTOGO (866.827.8646).  TAP cards are also available at over 400 vendor locations near you!

Once you purchase a TAP card, simply load fare and TAP on the blue TAP target as you enter the platform. Learn how to use your TAP card here.

How do I use my TAP card?

To ride, tap your card on the blue TAP target of the validator on buses or rail stations. A “beep” will sound and a message on the display will confirm if your card is valid. You must tap each time your board, even when you transfer. TAP cards are non-transferable, so each rider must have their own TAP card.
